Sciatica Pregnancy Treatment

Whether you’re welcoming your first baby or your fifth, pregnancy is the most exciting time in a woman’s life. Unfortunately, many expectant moms suffer from different aches and pains throughout their pregnancy. Chiropractic care is the most effective treatment for pregnancy related pain, and it is especially helpful in treating sciatica during pregnancy.

What is Sciatica?

Are you experiencing pain that starts in your back and shoots down the back of one or both legs? You may have sciatica. This is one of the most common conditions I see in patients as a pregnancy chiropractor. During pregnancy, there are many factors that make a woman more prone to sciatica and pain. Changes to your center of gravity, hormones causing looseness, weight gain, postural shifts, and baby position can all contribute to this problem. Sciatica typically appears in the second or third trimester, but it can affect a woman at any stage of pregnancy. If you’re looking for a natural alternative to treat this common condition of pregnancy, the good news is that gentle chiropractic care can help you feel your best during this exciting time without the use of medications of invasive procedures.

Chiropractic Care for Sciatica

Not all chiropractors have the same training. Some Doctors of Chiropractic - like Dr. Brittany - have special training and certifications to more effectively treat 'moms to be.' The Webster Technique is a special method of analyzing and treating a pregnant patient in the chiropractic office. Utilizing this method, the care you receive will be safe for you and baby as well as more effective at treating the cause of your sciatica. Pregnant women benefit greatly from chiropractic care, and it quickly becomes one of their favorite doctor visits.

In addition to your chiropractic care, at home recommendations to compliment your care in the office may be required. Pregnancy chiropractors are trained to provide advice on stretching and strengthening exercises to reinforce the treatment you receive in the office. Simple at-home recommendations can assist in relieving sciatica and back pain in expectant mothers.

As a pregnancy chiropractor, I work with women everyday who are suffering with pain and sciatica. We work collaboratively with obstetricians, midwives, doulas, massage therapists and pelvic floor physical therapists to help you feel better during your pregnancy. We want to help you live your best life, and while pain is common during pregnancy, it doesn’t necessarily mean it is normal.

If you are suffering with pregnancy sciatica, or any other types of pregnancy related discomforts, call (508) 556-7566 today to schedule a consultation with Dr. Brittany, or schedule online.
